Drawing by Sophie, St Martin's Catholic Primary School

All Caversham schools and nurseries were invited to participate in the 2011 celebrations, and to use the opportunity for pupils to learn about local history and heritage. A number of schools signed up as partners. If staff at your school would like to use material from the  programme – or if you would like more information - please contact us.

The first schools’ event was the logo competition. Pupils of any age were invited to design a logo that captures something relevant to Caversham. There were nearly 50 entries from local schools and from the Emmer Green Brownies. The winner was Frances Patrick from St Martin’s Catholic Primary School. The chosen logo is now shown on this website and will appear on all central publicity. You will see a number of other entries on different pages on this site.

Bridging Caversham

Beginning on the 4th July children in Caversham had the opportunity to explore their locality through the performing arts, in a venture named Bridging Caversham. This project involved 6 primary schools (Emmer Green, Caversham Primary, Caversham Park Primary, Thameside, St Martin's and St Anne's) and Highdown School and Sixth Form Centre. The aim of the project was to work together to investigate, celebrate and perform the collective histories, voices and experiences of Caversham. During the week children from across the schools joined in workshops to explore the sights and sounds Caversham has to offer through story-telling, poetry, drama, film making, radio presenting, shadow puppetry and much more besides!

Heritage Material for Schools

Material from the heritage exhibitions is being provided to schools thanks to funding from the Heritage Lottery Fund. For more information please contact us.
